Cornelius

Marking the public opening of GoMA and APT5, the celebrations will continue on Saturday night with extended Gallery hours and a free event featuring music and video by one of Japan’s most influential and eclectic musicians, Keigo Oyamada. Performing and recording under the name Cornelius (after the simian hero in the film Planet of the Apes), Oyamada first emerged as a performer in Tokyo in the early 1990s. His work draws connections between a wide array of sounds with a level of playfulness and sophistication that has seen him heralded as one of the true innovators in contemporary pop music. Oyamada is also active in the fields of design, fashion, video and art, and is particularly renowned for his collaborations with artists and film-makers to produce visual accompaniments to his music. Oyamada has been working on his much anticipated new album and videos, which will have their world premiere as part of APT5 Performance.

Sensuous Things is a short video program curated by Cornelius especially for APT5 Performance. It will be screened in the Australian Cinémathèque for the duration of the Saturday evening programs.

Headlining the evening will be Sensuous Showcase, an extraordinary live multimedia performance by Cornelius and a 3-piece band.
